What Is A Serum And Why Do You Need One?

If you don’t know what a serum is, don’t worry, you are not alone and we are here to help! You may already have a well-rounded skincare regimen -and keep up the good work! – but if you are missing a daily serum, you are missing the opportunity to really target your main skin concerns. Why? That’s because a serum is used as a booster to your already existing regimen. Serums are often formulated more active ingredients and they are a lighter-weight (water-based) then your moisturizer which means you apply under your moisturizer. Serums target specific concerns such as lines & wrinkles or hyperpigmentation and their consistencies range from very light water-like essences, to gels and even oils.

How do I use a serum?

A serum should be applied after cleansing and toning, before your moisturizer, every AM and PM. Because a serum contains a high concentration of active ingredients, when you apply it to newly cleansed skin, it has the opportunity to penetrate deeply to deliver those nutrients and beneficial ingredients. If you were to apply it after your moisturizer for example, due to a moisturizer’s thicker consistency, the serum would not be able to pass through it to reach the deep layers of the skin.

Serums are also versatile! As an option, you could add your serum into your moisturizer, night cream or mask to enhance their potency, but we recommend the traditional apply before moisturizer way, which is crafted to target your concern and offer visible results with continued use.

How much do I use?

With most serums, you only need a few drops for your whole face, neck and décolletage- so fight the urge to add more expecting to see results quicker, it doesn’t work that way. They are formulated to contain precise amounts of ingredients needed for your skin to absorb at one time.

Here are some of our top serums to try for common skin concerns:

For Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Vitamin C Concentrate From reveel by MedSkin Solutions

This high-potency Vitamin C is the most innovative on the market. It has the ability to decrease wrinkles by 21% in only 21 days! Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant and fights free-radical damage, preventing pre-mature aging, therefore it should be your go-to if aging skin is your concern, not to mention it also gives your skin a healthy glow. Normally very difficult to stabilize in high concentration, this unique formula has been cryogenically frozen into little spheres to activate at use when you need your Vitamin C fix!

For loss of firmness and sagging skin

Infinity Concentrate from Cinq Mondes

It may look small, but this petite product packs a punch if sagging skin is your concern. With roots of Japanese beauty rituals, this serum is inspired by an ancient facial massage technique called “Ko Bi Do” which results in a natural face lift! Two unique patented complexes add density and volume to the areas that need it most, such as eye contours, above the lip and forehead. A “skin tensor” derived from organically grown oats and Phyto-Density Complex are to thank. The results? 26% increase in firmness after only 28 days.

For dull or undernourished skin

Cell Nourish from Elemental Herbology

If you haven’t been previously using a serum, your skin is probably looking a little lackluster. This serum is a great starter choice, because it is packed with beneficial vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to really recharge and put the spark in your skin! Especially helpful if you are a frequent flyer or live in a polluted environment, this light milky-like serum is a favorite for all skin types and really boosts skin’s health, leaving it radiantly glowing and protected.
